As usual, the pathetic government’s attempt to block and silence dissent shows just how little they know about the nature of the Internet. In an ever-continuing Streisand effect chain, they just keep drawing more and more attention to their censorship. If someone is commiting sedition, prove it in court, but let people make up their own damn minds about the content of his site. To shut it down only allows you to say whatever you fucking want to say about him without him being able to present his side of the story.

P.s. How about this gem? From Syed Hamid, Home Minister:

“We do not intend to curtail people’s freedom or right to express themselves. Everyone is subjected to the law, even websites and blogs,” he added.

Holy shit, we have freedom of speech? Like I said above, if they are breaking the law, then prosecute them in the court of law. Do you think Malaysians are so stupid as to be unable to disregard stupid, inflammatory comments? Or are you afraid of opinions which are critical of the government because they contain a truth you’d like to ignore?

Then we have other ministers who weigh in with their informed opinion:

Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Water and Communications, said he was not aware that SKMM had ordered ISPs to block the website.

“I do not read Malaysia Today. Media practitioners must be sensitive to culture and religion,” he said.
