Common Sense

“Common sense isn’t.”

Those are words of wisdom. What we often perceive to be self-evident truths or values are usually taken for granted because of the people we surround ourselves with. They, by virtue of sharing the same values, are perceived as ‘good’. Consider what occurs when we are faced with people of a different culture, different value system, different world view. We are at a loss to defend our beliefs: we always thought they were true and never challenged them. We were indoctrinated, so to speak, to the point where we never questioned anymore. This is the start of intellectual suicide; I hope I will never cross that point where I take something as a matter of course.

Look into postmodernism philosophy, the study of how preconceived notions and values are deconstructed.

However, as I mentioned before, you have to look into your own motivations as to why you are questioning your beliefs; are they not working for you ?
